Notes:		 Also called Ralph de Mesnilwarin, Justice of Chester.2 Ralph Mainwaring, Seneschal of Chester was the great-grandson of Richard de Mesnilwaren, son of Ranulphus who is said to have come to England with the Conqueror.3 He was born in 1155 at Warmingham, Cheshire, England. He was the son of Roger Mainwaring and Ellen (?). Ralph Mainwaring, Seneschal of Chester married Amicia de Meschines, daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc, 6th Earl of Chester and N. N. (?), circa 1188 at Warmingham, Cheshire, England.4 Ralph Mainwaring, Seneschal of Chester was living "temp. Richard I."3 Justice of Chester at England.5

Amicia of Chester Kevelioc de Meschines, of Chester Notes: AMICIA . Her alleged legitimacy, the subject of a bitter dispute in the late 17th century, was championed by one of her supposed descendants Thomas Mainwaring of Baddeley, Cheshire[170]. It is difficult at this distance in time to judge the merits of the arguments, although it is interesting to note that her daughter was named Bertrade, the name of Earl Hugh’s wife who herself witnessed the charter which recorded Amicia’s marriage contract (see below), which may suggest that Bertrade de Montfort was her mother. On the other hand, Amicia is not named among the earl’s legitimate daughters who are referred to in several contemporary primary sources, as quoted above. “H. comes Cestrie” granted “servicium Giliberti filii Rogeri, scilicet servicium trium militum” to “Radulfo de Meinilwarin cum Amicia filia mea in libero maritagio” by charter dated to [1178/80], witnessed by “Bertraya comitisse Cestrie...Willelmo de Meinilwarin...Roberto de Meinilwarin
